Three members of Una Voce San Bernardino left San Bernardino at 11 PM Friday (Dec 18) and headed up to St. Jarlath’s Catholic Church in Oakland, CA for the Solemn Ordination of the then-future Father Jose Zepada, FSSP on Dec 19. This Ordination and Missa Pontificalis was celebrated by His Excellency, The Most Reverend Salvatore Joseph Cordileone, bishop of Oakland. It is only on these rare occasions when there is a concelebration in the old rite. The newly ordained priest concelebrates with the bishop.
The trip was well worth the 6.5 hour drive both ways. We made it back safely in San Bernardino, on the evening after the ceremony.
Here are some pictures and videos taken by others who assisted at this Solemn Ordination:

To: Readers of the Una Voce San Bernardino website;
The Solemn Pontifical Mass celebrated by His Excellency the Most Reverend Salvatore Joseph Cordileone, Bishop of Oakland, CA , with Ordination to The Sacred Priesthood for Rev. Jose Manuel Zepada Hernandez at St. Jarlath Church in Oakland, CA was the most beautiful and spiritually uplifting celebration of the Sacrifice of the Holy Mass I have ever experienced. It caught up all of my senses to heaven in true worship of our Lord. Like David once I smelled the incense, “Let my prayer be counted as incense before you …” (David, RSV-CE of the Holy Bible, Psalm 140:2) was the prayer of my heart. The sound of Gregorian chant with polyphonic portions removed every thought from my mind except the worship of our Lord. The beautiful Latin being chanted by the cantor, and the choir, and by His Excellency Bishop Cordileone reminded me of the royal majesty of Jesus Christ our King. As I knelt down and felt my knees touch the ground to receive the body of Christ, I was reminded that I am called to spend my life in humble prayer remembering that Christ was crucified for me, and for you, and for all of humanity. The taste of the Eucharist reminded me to be grateful for the honor to receive Christ in the holy Eucharist and for the gift of His holy Church.
